Section G3 - Removal of Front Forks

Basically you take apart the front end in pieces, remove the wheel, remove the fender, remove the brake caliper (no need to break open the hydraulics however),  remove the fork legs.

1) Remove the front wheel. (See Section H6 - Removing and Refitting the Front Wheel (DIsc Brake). )

NOTE: The manual doesn't explicitly say this, but remove the front fender.

2) Unscrew and lift the fork tube large chrome top bolts, and using two wrenches release the damper rod from each top bolt.

3) Lift clear the speedometer and tachometer in their cases. You can allow them to hang on the cables.

4) Slacken the lower lug socket head pinch bolts.

The fork main tubes are a tapered fit into the upper yoke and require a shock to free them. You can either sharply pull down on the fork sliders, but if this doesn't work, you can replace the chrome top bolt by at least 6 turns and hit it with hammer using a block of wood to protect the chrome.

Or you can use your trusty hide mallet.

5) Remove the first fork leg, replacing the top bolt to keep the oil from leaking out.

6) Repeat for the second leg.

The rest of this procedure is for removing the yokes - I didn't do this, so I'm not covering it - yet...
